Sinise previously narrated the cabler's 1998 program "Inside the Space Shuttle."
"When We Left Earth: The NASA Missions" bows Sunday, June 8, at 9 p.m. and continues over the following two Sundays (June 15 and 22). Special marks the 50th anniversary of NASA and examines the agency from its early days to the present.
"The story of NASA is really America's story -- people coming together with grit, audaciousness and determination," said Discovery Channel prexy-general manager John Ford. "Gary's stirring but straightforward narration conveys that perfectly."
Sinise has been closely identified with space projects through his career, having played astronaut Ken Mattingly in "Apollo 13"; he also starred in the thriller "Mission to Mars."
