Mariah Carey’s “E=MC2” held onto the No. 1 slot on the nation’s album sales chart for a second week, selling 182,000 copies according to Nielsen SoundScan. The tally was nearly double that of the second-place finisher, Leona Lewis’ “Spirit,” which sold 96,000.

The two week tally of “E=MC2” is slightly outpacing the performance of Carey’s previous album, “The Emancipation of Mimi,” released in April 2005. “E=MC2” has sold 646,000 in two weeks vs. “Mimi’s” 631,000.

Top debut among the four in the top 10 was the Flight of the Conchords’ first full-length disc, which sold 52,000 copies and opened at No. 3. The Sub Pop release far outdistanced the New Zealand comedy duo’s 2007 EP “The Distant Future,” which reached only No. 116.

Ashlee Simpson’s third disc, “Bittersweet World” (Geffen), is her first album not to debut at No. 1. Selling 47,000 copies, it opened at No. 4; her debut, 2004’s “Autobiography,” sold 398,000 in its opening week.

Minneapolis hip-hop duo Atmosphere sold 36,000 copies of “When Life Gives You Lemons” (Rhymesayers) to debut at No. 5. Both figures are career bests.

“Prayer of a Common Man” (Universal South), from country singer Phil Vassar, sold 27,000 to come in at No. 10.

Other debuts include Story of the Year’s “The Black Swan” (Epitaph), which sold 21,000 (No. 18); the Weepies’ “Hideaway” (Nettwerk), 14,000 (No. 31); and rapper Prodigy’s “H.N.I.C. Pt. 2” (AAO Music), 13,000 (No. 36).
