'13' might find a home at Jacobs
Musical makes plans for Broadway
Adolescence-themed musical, which features a young cast portraying a group of high schoolers, has been tipped for a New York run since its well-received preem at the Mark Taper Forum last season. (That staging recently picked up a handful of 2007 Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle awards, including a prize for top production.)
Musical, which has been reworked since its initial incarnation, is next slated for a developmental production at Connecticut's Goodspeed Musicals in May.
Jeremy Sams directs and Christopher Gattelli ("South Pacific") choreographs the show, with a rock score by Brown ("Parade") and book by Dan Elish and Robert Horn. Todd Graff, director of the pic "Camp," helmed the Taper version, while co-librettist Horn joined the creative team after the L.A. run.
"13" would follow a youthful trend on Broadway, which last season saw the Tony success of teen-centric "Spring Awakening." Tween auds have been increasingly courted in recent years, as legiters realize the demo can play a significant role in boosting biz for shows such as "Legally Blonde" and "Wicked."
"13" would likely arrive in Gotham in September. Current tenant of the Jacobs, the limited run of "The Country Girl," is skedded to shutter July 20.
