The French-language version of “Le Roi Lion,” a licensed production of the Disney Theatrical Prods. hit from Euro producing org Stage Entertainment, scored trophies for musical, lights (Donald Holder) and costumes (Julie Taymor, also show’s helmer).
Parisian incarnation of “Lion King” opened in October. Stage Entertainment also has produced the show in Germany and the Netherlands.
“Lion King” wasn’t the only Moliere winner with American roots. Yank John Malkovich picked up the helming kudo for his direction of the French staging of “Good Canary” by Zach Helm, the American screenwriter of 2006 pic “Stranger Than Fiction.” Pierre-Francois Limbosch won set design laurels for the show.
