Nothing's been confirmed yet, but people close to the production confirm that CW execs have decided to put "Geek" on ice after the current season wraps. Skein may one day be revived, but only given the passage of enough time so that the format could once again seem fresh.
CW execs also may be spurred to reconsider if producers come up with a unique twist on the nerdy-guys-interacting-with-attractive-women format. One possible idea that's been discussed is changing the format to focus on age differences.
Like just about everything on the CW this season, "Geek" has suffered serious ratings slippage during its fifth season, which began March 11.
Skein -- a production of Ashton Kutcher's Katalyst, 3 Ball and Fox 21 -- was an instant ratings winner when it premiered on the now-dead WB network in 2005. It continued to do well when it migrated to the fledgling CW a year later.
"You can never be sad about a run like this," exec producer J.D. Roth told Daily Variety.
