Ambrose replaces the previously announced Lily Rabe as Ophelia, while Waterston takes over for Richard Easton as Polonius. Both Rabe and Easton depart due to scheduling conflicts, according to the theater.
As Gertrude, Colin will play mother to the previously announced Michael Stuhlbarg as the titular Dane, with Andre Braugher as Gertrude's new husband Claudius.
Shaking things up a bit this year, the Public will use the Internet to distribute batches of tickets to its annual free season in the park, due to construction to the exterior of the theater's downtown home.
Signup will occur online the day of each performance, with ducats doled out by lottery at 1 p.m. Tickets can then be picked up at the Delacorte Theater box office in the park.
A major chunk of day-of tickets will, as usual, be given out on a first-come, first-served basis at the Delacorte.
"Hamlet," helmed by Public a.d. Oskar Eustis, runs May 27-June 29. A revival of "Hair" follows later in the summer.
