The network has greenlit a second season of the franchise series, picking up 13 new episodes. Move wasn't a surprise; net and Warner Bros. TV had already started staffing a second season of the show.
Fox has also been developing potential companion series to the sci-fi hourlong and, in meetings with advertisers, execs have discussed several potential scheduling scenarios that include the show.
"It was a very ambitious show, and I myself was wondering if they could take on this mythology on a weekly basis," said Fox Entertainment prexy Kevin Reilly, who credited exec producers Josh Friedman and John Wirth with making it work. "I'm excited to see them take another whack at it."
Pickup was a no-brainer as "Sarah Connor" reps one of the year's most successful frosh entries -- averaging a 4.4 rating/10 share among adults 18-49, as well as 10.5 million viewers overall.
"Sarah Connor" opened big behind an NFL playoff game -- pumping up the show's overall average. But Reilly said he was "impressed with the fact that the show found a core audience."
"In a season where we saw plenty of shows come and go, even during the strike, with soft competition, this show found an audience," he said. "There was a definite uptick toward the end."
According to Reilly, "Sarah Connor" also benefited from heavy DVR usage.
Series, a spinoff of the "Terminator" film franchise, revolves around a woman and her son battling futuristic robots. Lena Headey stars as Sarah Connor, while Thomas Dekker plays her son, John. Richard T. Jones stars as FBI agent James Ellison; Summer Glau plays Cameron.
