Receipts at most productions climbed, with Lincoln Center Theater's glowingly reviewed revival of "South Pacific" ($706,979) leading the pack with a bump of more than $125,000. Another well-received musical revival, "Gypsy" ($821,446), stepped up by about $50,000.

During the prior sesh, both tuners were among the few whose sales bucked the overall downward trend.

Last week, the total Rialto cume rose approximately $600,000 to $18.5 million for the 33 shows reporting (or $19.5 million including the $1 million estimated for "Young Frankenstein"). Patrick Stewart starrer "Macbeth" ($381,987), which opened last week, gained about $10,000.

Previewing revival of Clifford Odets' "The Country Girl" ($381,414) went from three previews to seven last week and had an additional $175,000 to show for it, while both "Les Liaisons Dangereuses" ($87,613 for three previews) and "Thurgood" ($79,175 for two) began perfs.

Among pre-opening tuners, "Cry-Baby" ($278,943) was up more than $40,000, but "A Catered Affair" ($371,887) slipped slightly with the beginning of press perfs.

Most box office dips were relatively minor, although "Curtains" ($392,312) fell by more than $110,000 due in part to the three-day vacation taken by star David Hyde Pierce. And it looks as if "Passing Strange" ($198,627), off by roughly $20,000, still hasn't managed to capitalize on its strong reviews.

The 26 musicals grossed $15,864,319 ($16,868,319 estimated) for 81.6% of the Broadway total, with an attendance of 212,993 at 81.6% capacity and average paid admission of $74.48.

The eight plays grossed $2,679,468 for 14.4% of the Broadway total, with an attendance of 37,394 at 67.1% capacity and average paid admission of $71.66.

Average paid admission was $74.06 for all shows.
