Gersh will serve as senior VP, strategy and operations, intellectual property. His hire was announced Wednesday by John Fogelman, WMA's exec VP and worldwide head of motion pictures.
"Bruce's ability to generate ancillary opportunities for our artists will create new revenue streams that will ensure their artistic and economic sustainability," Fogelman said. "Bruce is a visionary, having built his division at ABC to become a major source of development, growth and sustainability for their most popular franchises."
At ABC Entertainment and ABC Studios, Gersh worked on shows such as "Lost," "Desperate Housewives" and "Dancing With the Stars," coming up with new businesses alongside those shows' producers.
Exec was part of the team that put series episodes on iTunes and ABC.com and also helped launch the company's early TV-on-DVD biz with shows such as "Alias."
"I want to make sure business opportunities reflect the visions of their creators," Gersh said of his new job. "I'm now one step closer to creators (by joining William Morris)."
