Phoenix, Gold go wild for 'Amish'

Comedy will focus on Rumspringa ritual

Phoenix Pictures and the Gold Co. are partnering on "Amish Gone Wild," centered on two Amish teenage brothers who go to Las Vegas for one last hurrah before joining the church.

Eric Gold will produce along with Phoenix's Mike Medavoy, Arnie Messer and David Thwaites.

Project will focus on the Rumspringa ritual, a rite of passage in which Amish teens expose themselves to pop culture and the experiences of the "English" world in order to make an informed decision about whether to live the restrictive Amish lifestyle.

The shingles have started talking to writers about the project. Gold Co. production exec Jessica Green came up with the original concept.

Gold left Mosaic Media Group to form the Gold Co. last summer. Phoenix is in production on action-thriller "Shutter Island," starring Leonardo DiCaprio.
