A former soccer player, Bigot hit the headlines when RTBF, which broadcasts to the French-speaking Walloon part of Belgium, interrupted broadcasts in December 2006 with a mock news flash announcing that the Flemish parliament had declared independence for the Flemish-speaking part of Belgium.
Bigot will need this inventiveness at Endemol France, which is under pressure to maintain its TV production leadership in France since topper Stephane Courbit ankled in October after Endemol’s purchase by a consortium composed of John de Mol’s investment vehicle Cyrte, Telecinco-Mediaset and Goldman Sachs.
