Fest, which runs July 4-12 in the West Bohemian spa town, will continue its popular New Hollywood sidebar, launched last year, with Czech premieres of seminal '70s pics "The French Connection" and "McCabe & Mrs. Miller."
Karlovy Vary, which came under scrutiny from Culture Minister Vaclav Jehlicka last year because it receives the largest chunk of state coin, will again receive $2 million in support, said fest artistic director Eva Zaoralova, adding that Jehlicka's "not a cinephile."
Screenings, many of which sold out last year, will be reduced, with some 220 pics unspooling.
The popular Forum of Independents sidebar, no longer run by its founders, Slovak film presenters Stefan Uhrik and Hana Cielova, will continue with seven pics from countries including India, Norway, Canada and the U.S. It will also honor documaker Les Blank.
The Midnight Movies series will install Brit horror faves, while another sidebar will focus on Dutch film, with pics ranging from cemetery tribute "Forever" to psychological road movie "Nadine."
