BBC News to get new look
Makeover includes new name for global web
|
BBC News 24, the pubcasters domestic 24-hour news web, will be redubbed BBC News.
Changes are being made so the webs can be more easily identified with other BBC news coverage across various platforms.
U.K. brand specialist Lambie Nairn has spent 18 months designing the new look, which will go into service on Monday.
The hope is that a freshly designed red globe -- surrounded by pulsating rings redolent of the planet Saturn -- on a white backdrop will help BBC News services be more easily identified in an increasingly competitive market.
We are simplifying the branding structure, a BBC spokesman said. The marketplace is getting more and more cluttered, and it was important to harness the various parts of BBC News.
There have been other competitive moves in the U.K. TV news market recently.
In January, main commercial rival ITV reintroduced flagship newscast News at Ten, going head to head with the BBCs 10 p.m. news show.
Tyro web Five also relaunched its main evening news program, hosted by celebrity anchor Natasha Kaplinsky, poached from the Beeb for about $2 million a year.
