Conroy joins 'Journal' cast

Actress added to CBS comedy

Frances Conroy has joined the cast of the CBS comedy contender "Mike Birbiglia's Secret Public Journal."

Thesp, best known for her role as Ruth Fisher on HBO's "Six Feet Under," will play Kathy, mom of Birbiglia's character. Skein would be her first series regular part since "Six Feet" went under in 2005.

Also joining "Mike": Christine Woods, who recently appeared in the Eye laffer "Welcome to the Captain." She'll play Birbiglia's girlfriend.
