Overture picks Parsons' 'Popped'

Escape Artists to produce teen comedy

Overture Films has purchased teen comedy spec "Freshly Popped," penned by tyro scribe Megan Parsons, and set it up with Steve Tisch, Jason Blumenthal and Todd Black at their Escape Artists banner.

Chris Coggins and Lance Johnson of Escape Artists are co-producing.

Story is about a teenage girl who works at movie theater and is trying to decide to whom she wants to lose her virginity.

Overture, an arm of Liberty Media, began operations in late 2006, headed by Chris McGurk and Danny Rosett, with the goal of releasing a slate of up to a dozen pics annually. Its first film, "Mad Money," opened earlier this year.

Lauren Kisilevsky brought the project into Overture and is overseeing.
