German funds hand out $8.7 million
Pirate pic takes $1.6 million
More than E1 million ($1.6 million) was collected by 14th century pirate pic “12 Meter ohne Kopf,” directed by young helmer Sven Taddicken (“My Brother the Vampire”). Pic received support from both Berlin-based FFA and Hamburg-based FFHH.
Also funded by FFHH is “Stille Sieger” (Silent Winners), the true story of a male Nazi agent who participated as a female athlete at the 1926 Olympic Games, helmed by Kaspar Heidelbach.
FFHH also is funding Ayse Polats’ third feature, “Luks Glueck” (Luk’s Luck), Peter Timm’s Berlin Wall love drama “Liebe Mauer,” and futuristic drama “Womb,” a Hungarian-German-French-British co-production by Hungarian helmer Benedek Fliegauf.
FFA also is funding an animated production by Constantin Film, “Die Konferenz der Tiere” (The Conference of Animals), based on a popular children’s book by Erich Kaestner.
Both FFA and the French-German Funding Commission gave coin to Julie Delpy’s “The Countess” and Werner Schroeter’s “Diese Nacht” (This Night), a drama about treason and denunciation in a group of people trying to escape from a dictatorship.
The French-German org also is giving coin to a nature documentary along the lines of “Microcosmos,” starring pets rather than insects. “Animal Farm” will be the debut feature of Dominique Garing, who has previously made animal docus for French TV.
