Lakeshore and TF1 pick up 'Scent'

Film based on Rufin's bestselling eco-spy novel

'The Scent of Adam'

Lakeshore Entertainment and France's TF1 Intl. will co-produce a film based on Jean-Christophe Rufin's bestselling eco-spy novel "Le Parfum d'Adam" (The Scent of Adam).

Story centers on a young activist who frees lab animals from a research facility in Poland and unwittingly finds herself at the heart of the eco-terrorist movement and a conspiracy of global proportions.

Producers are out to writers to adapt.

Lakeshore's Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi will produce alongside TF1's Patrick Binet. Lakeshore and TF1 will jointly handle international distribution, and TF1 Intl. will take French domestic distribution rights.

Novelist Rufin, the French ambassador to Senegal, is also a doctor and self-described sometime secret agent. His book, a bestseller in France, has been published in more than 20 countries and is set to be published in the U.S.

Rosenberg called "The Scent of Adam" an "extraordinary and very contemporary spy thriller from an extraordinary man." He added, "Rufin's fast-paced narrative entertainingly explores important issues at the forefront of global concern."
