Derek Smith has been named VP of operations strategy for Fox Filmed Entertainment
Smith will be responsible for reducing costs through changes in established business practices. He will report to Steve Shikiya, senior VP of strategy and business development.
Dean Hallett, executive VP of operations & strategy and CFO, said the move reflects the studio's need to become even more fiscally responsible. "Increased competition and the pace of change compel us to be more efficient in all of our businesses," he said. "With rapid changes in technology altering the way we create, market and deliver content, this is the perfect time to revolutionize our cost structure."
Smith was VP of IT feature production and studio operations, working with the executive team to shape the overall IT strategy. He has been involved in defining the strategy and infrastructure to best service and distribute content through traditional and emerging electronic distribution channels, as well as devising other innovative business solutions.
Before Fox, Smith was a practice lead in the media and entertainment industry group for Accenture, a global management consulting firm.
