'Big Rig' fuels up for summer release

Doug Pray's trucker doc to bow June 3

"Big Rig," helmer Doug Pray's doc about truckers will be released just as drivers fed up with rising fuel prices and job cuts are contemplating an industrywide strike.

Marketing scheme targets drivers with a theatrical release June 3 and a rollout along the open road. The "Big Rig Summer Tour 2008," will hit more than 25 truck stops nationwide through August. DVD will be released in conjunction with the tour.

Doc takes a closer look at America's dependence on land-shipped goods and working-class truckers' struggle against mounting costs in a job that keeps them constantly behind the wheel and away from their families.

"It's hard for any film to survive in today's marketplace and it's especially hard for documentaries. You have to be creative," said Screen Media Films prexy Robert Baruc. "We didn't want it dying after a two-city run so we are taking a radical approach to get it out to the masses."

Pic was financed by Ocule Films, produced by Brad Blondheim and exec-produced by Kirt Eftekhar and Randy Wooten.
