He replaces Jim Ward, who left LucasArts in February.
Rodriguez departs rival gamemaker Electronic Arts, where he has been chief operating officer of the Los Angeles development studio. He has also worked at Earthlink, Walt Disney Imagineering and the Walt Disney Internet Group.
Several Electronic Arts execs have left the gaming giant in the wake of a reorganization by topper John Riccitiello.
Rodriguez will report to Lucasfilm prexy Micheline Chau. He will take the reins at LucasArts in the middle of this month, in time to oversee the launch of several major game titles.
"Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures" and "Star Wars: The Force Unleashed" are tied to Lucasfilm's two major feature releases for the year, "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" and "Star Wars: The Clone Wars."
LucasArts also will bow an original title, "Fracture."
