Imax announced Tuesday that its digital projection system will bow in theaters in the Russian cities of Sochi, Nizhny Novgorod and Novosibirsk.

The agreement in Sochi is with exhib Luxor Cinemax; the deal in Nizhny Novgorod is with electronics retailer and developer Electronika; in Novosibirsk, the pact is with Siberian loop Art Science Cinema Distribution.

The cinemas will be set up between 2009 and 2011.

There are three Imax cinemas open in Russia -- in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Kazan.
