Story centers on a man who must return to the fantasy world that he abandoned in its moment of need 30 years ago.
Greg Erb and Jason Oremland are writing the graphic novel, which will be published next year by Oni Press. The pair have been tapped to pen the screenplay.
Stiller is producing through his DreamWorks-based Red Hour Films alongside the shingle's Stuart Cornfeld and Jeremy Kramer. Eric Gitter is also producing via his Closed on Mondays banner, which is Oni Press' producing partner on all of its movie projects. Peter Schwerin exec produces.
Red Hour's upcoming projects for DreamWorks include "The Ruins," which bows Friday, and the Stiller-helmed "Tropic Thunder."
Erb and Oremland penned comedy "The Princess and the Frog" at Disney and the animated projects "Fraidy Cat" at Disney and "Please Don't Feed the Humans" at Universal.
Properties in development at Portland, Ore.-based Oni Press include "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" at Universal, "Courtney Crumrin and the Night Things" at DreamWorks and "Maintenance" at Warner Bros.
"King Doug'' was packaged by UTA, which reps Stiller and Erb & Oremland, who are additionally handled by the Safran Co.
