"Magnolia," the latest play from Regina Taylor ("Crowns," "Oo-Bla-Dee"), will premiere at Chicago's Goodman Theater in March after a workshop this summer at the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center.

As she did with "Drowning Crow," an adaptation of "The Seagull," Taylor will write in the Chekhov tradition.

"Magnolia" takes its cues from "The Cherry Orchard." Set as desegregation impacts the social fabric of Atlanta in 1963, "Magnolia" follows a white landowner who returns from Paris to find her estate facing potential ruin. A businessman and descendant of slaves has a plan to turn the estate into subdivisions and sell it to white families fleeing the city.
