Rajiv Joseph wins Paula Vogel Award

Second Stage will produce 'Animals'

Scribe Rajiv Joseph has scored the second annual Paula Vogel Playwriting Award, handed out by Off Broadway's Vineyard Theater.

Nod comes with a $3,000 cash prize, a staged reading of the recipient's work and further developmental support from the Vineyard.

Joseph's play "Animals Out of Paper," about an origami artist's relationship with a teen and his teacher, will be produced as part of the Second Stage Uptown series this summer. Joseph's prior Gotham credits include "Huck and Holden," which ran at the Cherry Lane in 2006, and "All This Intimacy" at Second Stage Uptown, also in 2006.

Joseph graduated from NYU's graduate playwriting program in 2004.

Inaugural winner of the Vogel award was Tarell Alvin McCraney ("The Brothers Size").
