'Legally Blonde' hitting the road

Show has so far booked dates around the country through September 2009, in cities including Atlanta, Dallas, St. Louis and Washington, D.C.
Tour could capitalize on the national TV profile cultivated by "Blonde" on MTV, which aired a filmed version of the musical several times last fall and also will broadcast an upcoming reality casting show for the thesp who will step into the lead role on the Rialto.
On Broadway, the tuner has had its ups and downs at the box office, but recent weeks have seen the show creep back into the top ten. Last week "Blonde" played to 92% of capacity and receipts tallied about $845,000.
Production has so far grossed about $37 million since it opened last April.
Based on the 2001 pic, the Broadway and touring incarnations of "Legally Blonde" are produced by Hal Luftig, Fox Theatricals and Dori Berinstein in association with MGM Onstage, Darcie Denkert and Dean Stolber.
Tour kicks off Sept. 23 at the Providence Performing Arts Center.
