HONG KONG -- "Chevolution," the Netflix-backed docu about Alberto Korda's famously enigmatic photo of Cuban revolutionary Che Guevara, has been picked up by international sales agent Fortissimo Films.
Pic, which preems at the Tribeca Film Festival (April 23-May 4), was financed by Netflix's original content unit, Red Envelope Entertainment.
Hong Kong and Amsterdam-based Fortissimo will handle sales in all territories outside North America. Helmed by Trisha Ziff and Luis Lopez, pic will have its market premiere at Cannes in May.
Korda snapped the picture of the revolutionary leader in March 1960 at a funeral service for 136 Cubans killed during a counterrevolutionary terrorist attack. It was not published until 1967, but the image has since been replicated around the world in murals, flags, buttons, T-shirts, posters and album covers. Artist Andy Warhol printed the image as one of his pop art silkscreen prints.
Korda, who never received a penny for the picture, died in 2001.
