Live Nation will be U2’s sole concert promoter and merchandise producer over the next 12 years as the Irish band has joined Live Nation Artists.

Deal includes U2’s merchandising, digital and branding rights. It does not change U2’s recording or publishing deals, which remain with Universal Music Group.

The signing is the first major deal at Live Nation Artists since LNA announced its 10-year recording, touring and merchandising pact with Madonna last year.

No financial details were released.

“We’ve been dating for over 20 years now. It’s about time we tied the knot,” U2’s Bono said. U2 wants a “closer, more direct relationship between the band and its audience, and Live Nation has pledged to help us with that.”

U2 manager Paul McGuinness noted: “The opportunity to integrate U2 and Live Nation’s vision of the future is a great extension of our established business.”
