The flash animation game, the most popular in Europe with 7 million players, will bow in a made-for-Japan beta version in July.
As part of its launch strategy, DLE will broadcast a 90-second "Dofus" toon on "Fightension School," its early morning kids' show on the TV Tokyo network, starting in April. DLE also plans to market "Dofus" comics, art books and merchandise.
In partnership with Ankama, DLE will redesign the game's visuals for the local market. The basic game will be free, but players wishing to enter special areas will have to pay a sub fee, which is 5 euros ($7.80) in France but has yet to be set for Japan.
DLE's goal is one million players within three years of launch.
Started in 2001, DLE provides consulting services to the toon industry. It established a flash animation studio in 2005.
Last March, DLE bowed "Eagle Talon the Movie," the first feature-length toon created using only flash animation. The toon won the best animation and best international director of an animation prizes at the 2008 New York Intl. Independent Film and Video Festival.
The company will release a sequel, "Eagle Talon 2," at the end of May with Toho distribbing.
