Olsson
Augmenting her education with experience through the school’s L.A. Internship Program.
Back in Boston, Olsson served as one of the creative directors for AdClub, B.U.’s student-run advertising agency, where the junior oversaw modest campaigns for several student organizations. But that hardly compares with the hands-on experience she’s getting this semester in Los Angeles interning for TBWA/Chiat/ Day and ABC’s marketing department.
At a major agency like Chiat/Day, Olsson was fully prepared to run errands and fetch coffee. And indeed, she says, “They’ve kept me pretty busy,’’ but not just as a go-fer: “I’ve sat in on client meetings and had creative input in campaign planning, which is really exciting.” At night, she takes classes with fellow B.U. interns at the school’s satellite campus on Wilshire, earning credit toward her advertising degree.
A keen observer of office politics, Olsson has already deduced that, “This business is all about networking. Resumes don’t matter as much as how you present yourself in a room. That’s what I love about L.A. It’s very competitive, but it has this energy that really motivates me.”
