Spanish pubcaster taps new topper for its cultural web

Pere Roca aims for upscale auds

BARCELONA — Producer and development exec Pere Roca has been tapped as director of Spanish pubcaster RTVE’s new cultural channel.

The web will be integrated into the RTVE DTT offer following an announcement last fall by culture minister Cesar Antonio Molina and RTVE Corp. prexy Luis Fernandez.

Roca has extensive TV and cinema experience. Since 2005 he has been director of the Centre for Audiovisual Development, attached to the Catalan Institute of Industries Culturals

He was director of development at distributor Filmax from 1999 to 2004. Prior to that Roca worked as deputy director of programs at Spanish regional pubcaster TVC.

He said: “Although traditional TV consumption is decreasing, there's a new audience emerging for more challenging content.”

The channel, due to broadcast round the clock by 2010, aims to cover Spanish culture from across Spain and Latin America.
