“The Sopranos” creator David Chase will receive the Writers Guild of America West’s Paddy Chayefsky Laurel Award for Television, honoring lifetime achievement for outstanding writing.
Nod will be presented at the guild’s April 23 honorary awards luncheon at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles. Previous recipients include Steven Bochco, David E. Kelley, Susan Harris, Stephen J. Cannell and last year’s honoree, John Wells.
Chase won five Emmys and three PGA awards for his work on HBO’s “Sopranos.” He also received the DGA Honors Award in 2006.
Chase broke into showbiz as writer and producer of “The Rockford Files,” which earned him his first Emmy in 1978. He won an Emmy and WGA award two years later for the telepic “Off the Minnesota Strip.”
Chase’s other credits include “Kolchak: The Night Stalker,” “Alfred Hitchcock Presents,” “Almost Grown,” “I'll Fly Away” and “Northern Exposure.”
