Editor Carl Pingitore dies at 84
Worked on 'Dirty Harry'
After working on several early TV series such as "Maverick," "77 Sunset Strip," "Cheyenne," "The Lawman" and "Adventures in Paradise," Pingitore met director Don Siegel, who hired him to edit "The Beguiled" and "Dirty Harry," both starring Eastwood. When Eastwood made his directing debut on "Play Misty for Me," he brought Pingitore in to edit the film.
Moving to Columbia Studios, he worked on the TV series "Born Free," "Fantasy Island" and "Police Story."
His last editing credit was TV movie "Of Pure Blood" with Lee Remick.
A native of New York, his father was banjoist with the swing era big band, The Paul Whiteman Orchestra. Pingitore started a New York film editing service and moved to Hollywood in 1945.
He is survived by wife Karen; a son; two daughters; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
