Wasserstein's 'Musical' set for May

Show is based on playwright's children's book

The Wendy Wasserstein tuner “Pamela’s First Musical” gets its first public perf in a starry May staging that is a benefit for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

Donna Murphy tops a cast that includes Christine Ebersole, Tommy Tune, Christian Borle, Kathie Lee Gifford and Sandy Duncan, among others.

Based on the late Wasserstein’s own children’s book, the show has music by Cy Coleman and lyrics by David Zippel. Musical, about a young girl who spends her birthday with her aunt at a Broadway show, was skedded to preem in 2005, but that bow was canceled due to Wasserstein’s death from lymphoma.

Graciela Daniele helms the staging, set to play Town Hall on May 18. Proceeds go to BC/EFA and Theater Development Fund’s Open Doors Program, which Wasserstein founded.
