Gonzo offers animation online

Two toons get chance to reach foreign fans

TOKYO -- Toon maker GDH announced on Friday that subsid Gonzo will stream two of its new toon series online to foreign fans the same day they are broadcast in Japan.

"The Tower of Druaga -- The Aegis of Uruku" and "Blassreiter" will open on April 4 and 5 respectively on the YouTube, Crunchyroll and BOST sites with English subtitles. The sites will use various methods to provide the toons, from free streaming to fee-based downloads.

Gonzo is going with simultaneous domestic TV and international Web release to counter illegal downloading and file-sharing, which has become rampant in the foreign anime community.  Another aim is to explore new Web-based business models that maximize profits from VOD and other contents exploitation, while cutting distrib costs.
