ATAS honors nine

Honorees include 'Boston Legal,' 'Planet Earth'

The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has tapped nine award recipients for the org's first Television Academy Honors.

As an offshoot of the Academy's Television Cares Committee, the inaugural ceremony will recognize programs the org deemed relevant to the current social and political climate.

Honorees are HBO's "Alive Day Memories: Home From Iraq"; ABC skein "Boston Legal"; Lifetime's "Girl, Positive" and "Side Order of Life"; CNN's docu "God's Warriors"; the "Harm" episode of NBC's "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit"; CBS' "Pictures of Hollis Woods"; Discovery's "Planet Earth"; and Showtime's docu "Shame."

Event will take place at the Beverly Hills Hotel on May 1.
