As an offshoot of the Academy's Television Cares Committee, the inaugural ceremony will recognize programs the org deemed relevant to the current social and political climate.
Honorees are HBO's "Alive Day Memories: Home From Iraq"; ABC skein "Boston Legal"; Lifetime's "Girl, Positive" and "Side Order of Life"; CNN's docu "God's Warriors"; the "Harm" episode of NBC's "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit"; CBS' "Pictures of Hollis Woods"; Discovery's "Planet Earth"; and Showtime's docu "Shame."
Event will take place at the Beverly Hills Hotel on May 1.
