Bonaria reigns at Mondo TV Spain

Mondo aims to strengthen co-prod'n alliances

MADRID -- Italian toon house Mondo TV has tapped vet animation exec Maria Bonaria as general manager of its recently launched subsidiary Mondo TV Spain.

Bonaria has worked for cartoon companies BRB Intl., ELG Media Group, PPM Multimedia and BKN in a 14-year career.

From its new Madrid-based headquarters, Mondo aims to strengthen its co-production strategic alliances and sales operations in Spain, Portugal and Latin America.

Mondo TV Spain continues Rome-based cartoon giant Mondo TV's European expansion.

Italian interests include DVD company Mondo Home Ent., Japanese animation distributor Doro TV, theatrical distributor Moviemax, publishing arm Mondo Distribution and Mondo Licensing.

Mondo already operates in Germany via distributor Mondo Igel Media and DVD company Mondo Ent. and owns TV production house Mondo TV France. Mondo plans to create a London-based business for the U.K. market in the mid-term.

"Mondo TV Spain will enter as co-producer in one-to-two toon projects a year, mainly TV series," Bonaria told Daily Variety. New deals for Spain will be unveiled at next month's Mip TV mart in Cannes.

Mondo's library includes 1,400 half-hour episodes produced and adds another 3,600 episodes in distribution. It also sells 35 animated features.

Created in 1964 by Italian toon distributor-producer Orlando Corradi, Mondo TV listed on Italy's New Stock Exchange Nuovo Mercato in June 2000. The Corradi family holds 51.5% of Mondo.
