'Fences' revival aiming for Broadway
Suzan-Lori Parks to direct new production

Carole Shorenstein Hays, who produced the original Rialto incarnation of "Fences," will produce the revival. Shorenstein Hays also produced "Topdog/Underdog," the 2002 Pulitzer winner written by Parks.
"Fences," which starred James Earl Jones, was a hit that ran 15 months on Broadway and scored four Tonys including best play. It remains one of the few Wilson productions to recoup on the Great White Way.
No cast or theater has yet been nailed down for the revival.
A 2006 production at Pasadena Playhouse starred Laurence Fishburne and Angela Bassett. Producers had hoped to take that incarnation (helmed by Sheldon Epps) to London, but the transatlantic trip never materialized.
Part of Wilson's 10-play chronicle of African-American life in the 20th century, "Fences" centers on a black family in 1950s Pittsburgh.
Broadway credits for Shorenstein Hays, who had her first major hit with "Fences," include "Caroline, or Change" and "Doubt." She also is co-head of Shorenstein Hays Nederlander, which owns and operates three legit venues in San Francisco.
