'Last Remaining Seats' sets lineup

Films include 'Goldfinger,' 'Young Frankenstein'

Marilyn Monroe, Joan Crawford, Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton classics highlight this year's roster of films set to be screened as part of the Los Angeles Conservancy's "Last Remaining Seats" series.

The features, which are unspooled at several of downtown's old movie palaces, also include several slightly more modern entries: 1964's James Bond classic "Goldfinger," and the 1974 Mel Brooks comedy "Young Frankenstein."

This year's event will take place at the newly remodeled Million Dollar Theatre - originally built in 1914 - as well as the Los Angeles Theatre (1931) and the Orpheum Theatre (1926). Event, which is meant to increase awareness of Los Angeles' once vibrant core of historic theaters on Broadway, will run Wednesdays at 8 p.m. from May 28 through July 2.

Schedule includes "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes," on May 28, at the Los Angeles; "Mildred Pierce," June 4, at the Million Dollar; "Goldfinger," June 11, at the Orpheum; "Young Frankenstein," June 18, at the Los Angeles; "El Rey Del Barrio" (Spanish with English subtitles), June 25, at the Million Dollar; and Keaton's "The Navigator," along with other silent shorts, on July 2 at the Oprheum.

"Last Remaining Seats" first launched in 1987; this reps the 22th annual season. Events also include other entertainment such as on-stage interviews, short films and newsreels, and musical performances.
