Geena Davis tapped for CBS pilot

'Thelma' actress to play detective on 'Exit 19'

Geena Davis is set to return to television, signing on to topline the just-greenlit CBS drama pilot presentation "Exit 19."

Eye gave a thumbs up to the Jeff Bell-penned project Tuesday. Davis will play a quirky murder detective balancing her job as a Manhattan crimesolver with her role as a single suburban mom raising two kids on Long Island.

Bell will exec produce the project along with Davis, Gene Stein and Nina Wass. CBS Paramount Network Television is producing in association with ABC Studios.

Pickup comes just a few weeks after ABC Studios terminated its deal with Wass and Stein as part of a massive strike-related restructuring.

Davis' last TV role was as the first female president in ABC's "Commander in Chief." Eye entertainment prexy Nina Tassler has been trying to develop a project with Davis for several years. Exec and thesp are both grads of Boston U.
