Asian pair agree to share 'Empress'

Film stars Donnie Yen, Kelly Chen

HONG KONG -- Golden Network and Mei Ah Entertainment are to split rights to "An Empress and the Warriors" (Jiang shan meiren.)

The martial art epic directed by Tony Ching Siu-tung was released in China March 7.

Handled by Poly Bona, it has clocked up some 20 million yuan ($3 million) so far and will next be released in Hong Kong through Golden Harvest.

Mei Ah has handled other Asian sales -- and has largely sold out -- while Golden Network is handling the film in the rest of the world.

Pic, which stars Donnie Yen, Kelly Chen and Leon Lai, was produced through United Filmmakers Organization.

Sales to date include Group Power Workshop and Mei Ah in Taiwan, United Home Entertainment for Thailand, Mei Ah and Dream Movie in Singapore, Grand Brilliance for Malaysia, Vietnam Media for Vietnam, K & Entertainment for Korea and PT Teguh Bakti Mandiri for Indonesia.

Outside the region it has sold to the UK's Showbox Media Group and Germany's Splendid.
