HONG KONG -- After just over a year since its strong debut at Cannes, Hong Kong-China shingle J.A. Media has maintained traction and unveiled a slate of four pics by some of the biggest names in Chinese-language cinema at FilMart, Asia's foremost film market, in Hong Kong.
The pics include Tsui Hark's "She Ain't Mean," an urban comedy about female sophisticates lensing in Beijing, featuring Zhou Xun, Kitty Zhang and Kwai Lun-mei and scripted by Korean helmer-scribe Kwak Jae-yong.
J.A. Media is also rolling out the teen romance "Miao Miao," which is co-produced with helmer Wong Kar-wai's Jettone and produced by Stanley Kwan and Jacky Pang. Pic stars Fan Chih Wei, Ke Jia Yan and Sandrine Pinna.
Two remaining pics are Stephen Fung's "Jump," an action comedy based on a story by Stephen Chow, and Stanley Kwan's "He Is, He isn't," which is set in Bangkok and stars Huo Xiaoyu of "Little Jade" fame.
J.A. Media, which is backed by the wealthy Chinese energy-to-pharmaceuticals conglom Jian Group, has not forgotten its TV roots and is in pre-production on skeins including "The Great Repatriation," "Driven to Tears," and "Qiao Long Biao."
It is in post-production with Jordan Chan on "Chen Zhen."
Adding to the group's credentials is producer Nansun Shi, who is working with J.A. Media as a consultant, and who joined the group's senior management onstage for a champagne reception at FilMart.
Company has opened a Beijing office to handle production and distribution responsibilities, while its Hong Kong outlet handles distribution and finance. FilMart closes on Thursday.
