Pichirallo, a former senior exec at Fox Searchlight and Focus Features, spent the past two years as head of film production and development for Will Smith and James Lassiter's Overbrook Entertainment.
Pichirallo began his career as a reporter for the Washington Post and entered the business as an HBO Pictures exec.
Gold Co. topper Eric Gold, manager of Vince Vaughn and Ellen DeGeneres and co-manager of Jim Carrey with ex-partner Jimmy Miller, is looking to expand his feature production profile, particularly on the comedy front, and Pichirallo will lead that charge. Current Gold Co. projects include "The Art of Cool" and "Outsourced" at Sony, "Who's Killing the Great Chefs of Vegas" at Warner Bros. and "Take Me to Your Leader" at Paramount.
"Joe has consistently demonstrated the ability to get films made, as well as having good story and talent skills," Gold said. "He's particularly plugged in with the pool of emerging directors, writers and actors."
Pichirallo takes the job after completing "The Secret Life of Bees," directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood. Pichirallo produces with Lauren Shuler Donner, Lassiter and Smith. Fox Searchlight releases the pic Sept. 19.
