Toronto's 'Rock' clocks out

Queen musical to end Canon Theater run in May

The jukebox tuner based on the songs of Queen, "We Will Rock You," will end its Toronto run May 11 after 488 performances at the Canon Theater. The show opened in April 2007 after a month of previews.

Producer David Mirvish had originally estimated only a two- to three-month engagement for the musical, his caution seemingly warranted by the disappointing Toronto runs of "The Producers," "Hairspray" and "The Lord of the Rings." "The important thing is that 'We Will Rock You' proved we can still sustain a year's run here in Toronto," Mirvish said.

The producer also indicated that a Canadian tour following the Toronto run was likely, though details have not yet been set.
