MEXCIO CITY -- Miguel Angel Davila has ankled as head of AMC Entertainment's Mexico City-based exhibition chain Cinemex.
Alma Garcia Puig, currently director of programming, will take over on May 1.
Cinemex said Davila was leaving the company, which has the second biggest market share in Mexico behind national chain Cinepolis, to pursue "other entrepreneurial projects."
He is also the head of Mexico's national film chamber, Canacine, and will stand down as soon as a new president is elected.
Davila, the son of a Mexican governor, has long been suspected of harboring political ambitions.
He is the last of Cinemex's three co-founders to exit the company. Davila, Adolfo Fastlicht and Matt Heyman planned the chain after meeting at Harvard Business School and spurred the development of Mexico's first multiplexes during the mid-1990s.
