Cartoon Network is consolidating its programming operations on the West Coast, with Sci Fi Channel exec Robert Swartz heading up development and current programming.
Swartz will serve as VP of original series at Cartoon Net. Rob Sorcher, the cabler's new chief content officer, spearheaded the restructuring.
Swartz will handle development for Cartoon's animated, live-action and alternative series. Exec, who starts March 17, will report to Sorcher.
"Rob brings a fresh perspective to the kids arena and knows development across all formats," Sorcher said.
As part of the hire, Cartoon Network's current series department will move from Atlanta to Burbank, uniting it with the net's development team.
"Having our entire development and current teams on the West Coast will allow us to extend our relationships with the creative community and rapidly expand our slate of series and productions," Sorcher said.
Swartz was most recently VP of alternative programming at Sci Fi Channel, launching shows such as "Destination Truth" and "Ghost Hunter." His credits also include stints at NBC and Touchstone TV.
