Universal pic was written and directed by Michael McCullers, a former “Saturday Night Live” scribe who penned “Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me” and “Undercover Brother.” “Saturday Night Live” boss Lorne Michaels and John Goldwyn produced.
Filmed mostly in Gotham, story follows a single career woman (Fey) who finds a surrogate (Poehler) to carry her baby and the gestation-length chaos that ensues when class, culture and expectations collide. Cast also includes Greg Kinnear, Dax Shepard, Romany Malco, Maura Tierney, Holland Taylor and Sigourney Weaver.
“Baby Mama” will open two days after the Tribeca screening.
“It's an honor for ‘Baby Mama’ to open the Tribeca Film Festival,” said Michaels. ”We all live and work in New York City, so there is no way we will not get to the premiere on time.”
Tribeca fest, now in its seventh year, will unveil the rest of this year’s slate during the next two weeks.
