Thesp and TV host Mario Lopez steps into “A Chorus Line” in April, taking on the role of Zach, the director of the musical-within-a-musical.

Lopez, the “Saved by the Bell” alum who hosts “Extra TV” and was a finalist on “Dancing with the Stars,” will appear in “Chorus Line” through Sept. 7. Scheduling of the stint looks to be an effort to help attract summertime tourism auds to the show.

Revival of “A Chorus Line,” a faithful restaging of the 1975 original production, opened in October 2006 with Michael Berresse as Zach. The production recouped its $8 million capitalization in about 20 weeks, and has so far grossed a total of around $45 million.

Recent week-to-week sales have fluctuated, with last week’s tally dipping to $303,852.

Lopez begins his run in the Broadway incarnation of “Chorus Line” April 15. Touring production of the tuner begins in Denver in May.
