NBC sets Sorvino for 'Last Templar'

Miniseries based on Khoury's bestselling novel

Oscar-winning thesp Mira Sorvino has signed on to star in "The Last Templar," an NBC miniseries based on the bestselling novel from Raymond Khoury.

Sorvino joins a cast that also includes Victor Garber. Shooting begins next month in both Montreal and Morocco for an airdate later in the year.

Romantic adventure-themed mini stars Sorvino as Tess Chaykin, a Manhattan archaeologist searching for the medieval Knights Templar. Garber plays Monsignor De Angelis, who helps find the artifact.

Mini comes from Muse Entertainment Enterprises, while RHI Entertainment and Powercorp are distributing globally.

Sorvino previously earned a Golden Globe nom for her role in the Muse- and RHI- produced telepic "Human Trafficking." On TV, Sorvino also starred in the longforms "Norma Jean & Marilyn" and "The Great Gatsby."

Paolo Barzman is directing "The Last Templar," based on a script by Khoury and Suzette Couture. Robert Halmi Sr., Robert Halmi Jr. and Michael Prupas exec produce.
