Decision to close up shop was made jointly by Maverick TV partners Guy Oseary and Michael Rosenberg, who are separating amicably. Oseary has allowed Rosenberg to take all of Maverick TV's ongoing development out the door.
Rosenberg will be setting those projects up at Blueprint Entertainment, where he's just been named senior VP of creative affairs. Oseary and Rosenberg continue as exec producers of "The Riches."
Exec will be charged with heading up the Toronto-based company's development and production in the U.S., where Blueprint already has started to make a name for itself with shows such as ABC Family's hit "Greek."
Rosenberg brings along a Maverick slate that includes projects at MTV (a comedy from Joel Stillerman) and the N (a family drama by David Berenson) as well as a dark family comedy from "The Riches" creator Dmitry Lipkin and wife Collette Burson.
Rosenberg has also already started developing several projects in the weeks since he joined Blueprint.
"We're looking to expand Blueprint's presence here in the U.S. and in the larger cable world," Rosenberg said. "I think it's a place that writers and some actors and actresses can see as more of a creative partner than as a bank."
For Oseary, the decision to lock up Maverick TV and get out of the smallscreen biz, for the time being at least, comes as his management business dramatically expands. Oseary has long managed Madonna -- who recently signed a rich pact with Live Nation -- and also reps Lenny Kravitz and baseball superstar Alex Rodriguez.
Rosenberg said he hopes to create the same kind of environment he fostered at Maverick TV, where he put five projects on the tube during his four-year stint. Blueprint's cable-centric strategy also mirrors Maverick's focus, he noted.
"It's a company that's set up well to do business with existing and emerging cable networks," he said. "But we'll be developing for the broadcast networks as well. I think they're looking for me to strengthen their relationships with the networks and with the U.S. agency and writer communities."
Rosenberg, who is based in Blueprint's Century City offices, will report to co-founders John Morayniss and Noreen Halpern.
Blueprint is also staffing up at its Toronto home base, where Rachel Fulford has been named VP of creative affairs. Fulford joined from Canadian specialty channel Showcase, where she worked on shows including "Trailer Park Boys" and "Kenny vs. Spenny" (which also comes from Blueprint).
Founded in 2002, Blueprint has credits that also include the series "'Til Death Do Us Part" and "The Best Years" as well as telepics such as "How I Married My High School Crush."
Maverick TV's other credits include the MTV reality skein "I'm From Rolling Stone" and the ABC Family telepic "Chasing Christmas." Company most recently held a first-look deal with 20th Century Fox TV's Fox 21 alternative arm, but that deal was set to expire this summer.
