It will be an easy segue for Tappon, who has already been working closely with 495 prexy Sally Ann Salsano and the "Tila Tequila" franchise, which also includes "That's Amore," "More Amore," "A Shot at Love 2" and "A Shot at Love 2 ... the Hangover."
Salsano said it was in the editing bays where "A Shot at Love" is cut that she pitched the job to Tappon.
"This is one of the best 'gets' in town," she said. "We want to be able to expand and keep the train moving and wanted someone at a senior level to flush out the development slate. I told him he was someone I wished we had full time and asked if there was any chance he would do it."
Tappon had been with MTV Networks since 1996, most recently as senior VP of original programming and series development. He oversaw skeins including "The Real World," "Road Rules," "Date My Mom," "Next," "Parental Control" and "Exposed."
Salsano and Tappon worked together in the late 1990s on MTV's "Blame Game."
Also at 495, James Bianco has been named head of production. Bianco, who previously served as exec in charge of production, has been at 495 since its launch.
Less than 2 years old, 495 has grown to 195 employees. Company's credits also include HGTV's "Design Star," NBC's "Nashville Star" (with Reveille) and Style's "The Big Party Plan-Off."
